Rimiez
The heights above Cimiez, where the city stops and the terraced slopes begin.
Rimiez extends Cimiez northwards, on slopes terraced for cultivation before they were built on. The fabric is that of the Nice hills: detached villas, narrow lanes, dry-stone walls, and plots whose usable area owes more to the slope than to the land registry.
The Parc de Rimiez occupies part of the sector and gives it room to breathe. The altitude affords long views over the city and the bay, and a few degrees less than the seafront in summer — which, on this coast, is a more serious argument than it sounds.
The trade-off is constant on these heights: a car is indispensable, access is by hairpin, and parking is checked before the view. A property without its own parking is lived in differently from one that has it.
