Mont Boron
A wooded hill closing the city to the east, whose park has limited building for a hundred and fifty years.
The forest park covers much of the slope. It was planted in the nineteenth century, with Aleppo pines and holm oaks, on a then-bare hill. Its presence explains the low density a few minutes from the centre — building is constrained here, which is rare so close to a city of this size.
Fort du Mont Alban has occupied the summit since the mid-sixteenth century. It is one of the few military works of its period preserved intact on the coast, and the point from which one takes in the port of Nice on one side and the roadstead of Villefranche on the other.
Aspect is the first thing to check here. The slope faces south and east: clear light from morning, sea views, but narrow roads and often private parking. The hill requires a car for daily life, which is measured before buying rather than after.
