Èze: four hundred and twenty-seven metres, and three villages in one
The perched village, the middle corniche and the shoreline share a name and almost nothing else. The confusion is costly for those buying from afar.
Èze village stands at four hundred and twenty-seven metres. Èze-sur-Mer is at sea level, with its own station. Between them, the middle corniche carries much of the residential building. An address "in Èze" therefore says almost nothing until you know which of the three.
The Friedrich Nietzsche path links the shore to the village over some four hundred metres of ascent. The philosopher walked it during his stays; it has borne his name since. Allow an hour and a half going up, and proper shoes.
The Exotic Garden occupies the site of the former castle, dismantled in the early eighteenth century. It overlooks the whole coast, from Cap-Ferrat to the Estérel in clear weather, which explains the village's daytime crowds.
Those crowds are the thing to measure before buying in the village itself: the lanes are pedestrian, houses are reached on foot from the car parks, and tourist flow is dense from April to October.
